## Address interpolation
The search uses several sources of address data, which cover hundreds of millions of locations globally. These addresses create a framework that allow for interpolation, or estimation, of address numbers in cases where data is missing or the address is incorrectly entered.
If the address value is estimated, you see `interpolated` for the `match_type`.
The simplest form of address interpolation involves drawing a straight line between the nearest known address numbers and placing the interpolated address within a range on that line. This method may result in the point being offset from the road, especially with curving roads, which could make it harder to use as an input point for routing and navigation.
For more accurate placement of interpolated address points, the geocoder uses the actual street line to locate the estimated position. This means the interpolated locations are placed on the street itself and follow along its shape.
